Demonstration plots and training programs have been developed for farmers and farmer groups. By purchasing commodities directly from the farmer, maintaining the company's high standards, retaining skilled staff, and investing in machinery and logistical support, both coffee / cocoa quality and delivery times have been and will remain a strength and priority of Ugacof. Ugacof employs a dedicated permanent staff and several hundred casual day-workers, about half of them being women. Community conscious, Ugacof has initiated schemes dedicated to helping its workers and staff. An AIDS / HIV scheme is in place to treat affected workers anonymously enabling them to continue having an active working life, under free medical supervision. Similarly, a loan scheme has been in place for a number of years helping many to combat personal economic and domestic difficulties.
