Meta Abo Brewery is located in the town of Sebata, 27 km from Addis Ababa. The brewery was established in 1963 by the Ethiopian Government and Ethiopian private nationals as a share company with a starting capital base of 2 million Birr. Initially, the production capacity of the brewery was 50,000 hl. per annum. In 1970 the first expansion program took place, and the annual production capacity was raised to 120,000 hl. Later on, in 1980, the second expansion program was carried out. As a result of this program, the attainable production capacity reached 350,000 hl. Meta has been transformed into a share company with 83.28 million Birr paid in share capital as at December 31, 1998. The company has 83,284 ordinary shares with a par value of Birr 1000.00 each fully owned by the government.It is the only brewery which gets water from a big reserve of soft spring water (locally known as holy water of St. Abo). The spring water meets the international brew standard to be used without any treatment. The brewery produces bottled and draught beer. Bottled beer is supplied to all markets in the country, while draught beer is supplied to the city of Addis Ababa and the towns located within 120 km from Addis Ababa. The brewery has a liaison office and distribution center in Addis Ababa. The total land holding of the brewery is 369,000 m 2 of which 25,000 m 2 is a built-up area. A car park, recreation and horticultural farms occupy the major part of the brewery's premises.In 1998, Meta Abo Brewery produced and sold 365,000 hl. of bottled and draught beer worth Birr 195 million. In the same year, it made a profit of Birr 39.74 million.The brewery supplies 55% of its product to distributors and 45% to retailers. Distribution outside Addis Ababa is made through agents. The brewery distributes draught and bottled beer to Addis Ababa using its own truck fleet.The brewery's major raw materials are malt, hop extract, hop powder, and other chemicals. Except the hop extract, powder and chemicals that are imported from abroad, the major raw material, malt, is obtained from Assala Malt Factory at a distance of 200 km from the brewery. N&B Crocodile Farm

N&B Crocodile Farm breeds crocodiles for skins and meat for export.The farm consists of 45 breeders being 5 male and 40 female all over 15 years old. These are kept in a large fenced breeding dam with strategically placed sandpits for egg laying.Nearing September when laying takes place these sandpits are moistened daily, raked each evening and monitored for any signs of digging. If there is any disturbance in the sand, the area is checked for eggs.When eggs are found they are placed in kaylite boxes in vermiculite and the boxes are packed into the incubator, which is kept at 34 degrees. An average of 35 eggs per female are laid with approximately 1400 eggs being collected. Some will be infertile and others rejected for various reasons.Each box is clearly labelled with the date of lay and the period of incubation is roughly 90 days. About 3 days before the due period, which is in December, the boxes are monitored for hatching. The crocodiles make a chirping sound when hatching and are then removed from the incubator boxes and placed on dry sand for 24 hours. They are then moved to hatchling pens in enclosed tunnels where the water is warmed during the winter months to promote growth. The hatchlings are fed on minced meat and liver and, together with the breeders and growers, consume approximately 700 kilograms of meat per week. At one year old the crocodile growers are transferred to open concrete pens where they grow out to approximately 1.5 metres in 2 years before being slaughtered for their belly skins and meat for export.Our annual slaughter is approximately 900 animals done during April, May and June each year. Diseases such as brown spot are more prevalent during the summer months, Sept to March. Our Manager, Felix Makaza, and his staff of ten run the farm.N&B Sugar EstatesThe N&B Sugar Estate has a quota to produce 10,500 tonnes of sugar cane and a water allocation of 1 3/4 cusecs.The farm employs 60 people who are housed, with their families, on the farm in two bedroom brick under iron houses. The staff have their own beerhall and entertainment area and a clinic.

These are Rapé, Menthol and Original.Snus is an alternate form of nicotine intake and is healthier than cigarettes to the body and to the environment. It is served in little sachets - “snubs” - inserted in the mouth between the gum and top lip, remaining there for as long as it is comfortable or required while the tobacco flavour is slowly absorbed.Snus has a slower nicotine absorption rate than cigarettes therefore one snub will last for up to an hour. With regard to a possible link between snuff dipping and cardio-vascular disease, there are few studies and these have produced contradictory results.Swedish snus acts as an appetite suppressant, which, if you want to quit smoking, is good because you won’t put on weight.Swedish snus does not cause discolouration to teeth or hands the way smoking does.Swedish snus is actually good for gums in that the salt content of the snub has a positive influence for healthy gums.Swedish snus will reduce tooth decay in that the manufacturing process creates an alkaline product, which counter-acts the acids that cause tooth decay.It should be noted that nicotine is an addictive stimulant and should not be introduced to persons under the age of 18.
